Slides - Trouble Shooting

If your Bush Furniture has a drawer, keyboard shelf, or printer shelf, there are slides   included with your furniture.  The following describes two common types of slides which may be included with your Bush Furniture:

1.) Ball bearing slides

These slides may be 14" or 18" in length and silver in color.

2.)
4 part Runner and Mount Slides

These slides may be 14", 16", or 18" in length and Almond, Black, or Brown in color.

Does it appear that you are missing a slide?

Frequently, when a slide appears to be missing, completing the following    steps will remedy the problem:

The ball bearing slides which are included in your Bush Furniture have three sections:

The largest part of these sections is the base. This is the part of the slide which is fastened to the side panel of your unit.

The middle section of the slide is the 1st extension.

The smallest section of the slide is the 2nd extension.  This must be removed before it is fastened to the side of the drawer.  The following steps will describe how to remove the 2nd extension:

A.) Fully extend the ball bearing slide.

B.) Between the 1st and 2nd extension, there is a black plastic lever.  Press the lever and pull on the 2nd extension until it is removed from the rest of the ball bearing slide.

C.) The portion of the slide you have removed is the part shown in your instruction book which is fastened to the    drawer side or shelf.

4 part Runner and Mount Slides

The mounts are the flatter pieces and the Runners are the angled pieces.

The mounts are attached to the side panels of your furniture and the runners are   attached to the drawer side or sliding shelf.

The mounts and slides have two letters stamped into the metal as follows:

1.) Right Slide Mount - This part is stamped with a CR

2.) Left Slide Mount - This part is stamped with a CL

3.) Right Slide Runner- This part is stamped with a DR

4.)
Left Slide Runner - This part is stamped with a DL

Trouble Shooting

A.) Shelf or Drawer falls out or tips up or down when it is pulled out:
Check the mounts (the portion of the slides installed inside your furniture).  The CL should be on the left and the CR should be on the right.  If the mounts are installed properly, then the slide runners installed on the side of the drawer or shelf, have been installed on the wrong side.  Remove the runners and reattach them on the opposite sides of the drawer or shelf.

Correct

B.) The Shelf or Drawer is difficult to slide in and out:

There are multiple types of screws included in with your Bush Furniture.  Some of these screws have a round head, others have a flat head.  The screws used to attach the slide mounts (designated as CR or CL) must have flat heads on them.    |

A common occurrence is to have installed the runners (DR and DL) with the flat headed screws and the mounts (CR and CL) with the round headed screws.  This causes the drawer or shelf to catch on the top of the screw.  If this has occurred, remove the screws on the runners and mounts and use the flat headed screw to install the mounts and the round headed screw to install the runners.

C.) The shelf or drawer will not close all the way:

The runners (DR or DL - attached to the shelf or drawer) should be flush with front of the drawer or shelf which they are attached to. If they are not, loosen the screws and reposition the runner so that it is flush with the front of the drawer or shelf.

Wood door pivot hinges

Before attaching hinges to your door, observe that there is a top and bottom hinge.

 Top Hinge   Bottom Hinge

The difference between the above pictured hinges is the placement of the pivot pin.

Select the top hinge and attach it to the door using the screws indicated in the    instruction book.  Attach the hinge so that the pivot pin sits on the top edge of the    door.

Correct

Incorrect
The bottom hinge has been attached.  Remove and attach the top hinge
.

Incorrect
The hinge is attached backwards. Remove the hinge, and attach the top hinge so that the Pivot Pin is over the top of the door.

Complete the following steps when your instruction book indicates that it is time    to install the wood door in your Bush Furniture:

1.) Place the round bushing in the hole indicated in your instruction book for the bottom hinge.

2.)  Place the bottom hinge so that the pivot pin is inserted inside the bottom         bushing.

3.)  Place a bushing on the pivot pin of the top hinge which is attached to your         wood door.

4.)  Position the door so that the bushing on the top hinge goes into the hole          indicated in your instruction book.

5.)  Pivot the bottom of the door so that it is positioned over the bottom hinge.

6.)  Attach the bottom hinge to the door with the screws indicated in your            instruction book.

If the door is not level, adjust the hinges, one at a time, by loosening the screws    which attach the hinge to the door.  Slide the door into the desired position and    tighten the screws.

Glass Door - Installation
To assist you in placing the neoprene pad (square piece of foam) in the proper   position on the glass, a full scale illustration of the corner of the glass (template)  has been drawn on your instruction page.  Complete the following steps to  install the neoprene pad:

1.) Place the glass on the floor so that it is over top of the illustration on your        instruction page.

2.) Line up the corner of the glass with the corner of the template.

3.) Remove the backer from the back side of  the pad.

4.) Attach the pad on the glass in the position indicated by the template.

Attach Steel Spacers: Peel the backing from the steel spacers and attach to the corners of the glass as shown in your instruction book.

Before attaching hinges to the glass, observe that there is a top and bottom hinge.

The difference between the above pictured hinges is the placement of the pivot pin.

Select the top hinge and slide it over the steel spacer in the corner of the glass    indicated by your instruction book.  Note that the screw holes in the hinge should    be on the side of the glass which has the steel spacer, so that the screws will    tighten against the spacer and NOT against the glass.

Make certain the pivot pin is on the edge of the hinge which is closest to the corner of the glass.

Correct

Incorrect:
The bottom hinge has been attached.  Remove and attach the top hinge.

Complete the following steps when your instruction book indicates that it is time to install the glass door in your Bush Furniture:

1.)  Place the round bushing in the hole indicated in your instruction book for the bottom hinge.

2.) Place the bottom hinge so that the pivot pin is inserted inside the bottom         bushing.

3.)  Place a bushing on the pivot pin of the top hinge which is attached to your         glass door.

If the door is not level, adjust the hinges, one at a time, by loosening the screws    that attach the hinge to the door.  Slide the door into the desired position and    tighten the screws.

Fastener System - Installation
Step 1
Place the fastener nut in the hole in the board indicated in your instruction book. Turn the nut so that the arrow points to the edge of the board.

Step 2
Using a Phillips screwdriver, screw the fastener bolt into the hole indicated in your instruction book.  The bolt should be screwed in so the threads are not visible and the shoulder of  the bolt is snug against the surface of the board.

Step 3
Position the board that contains the fastener bolts so the bolts will slide into the holes directly beneath the fastener nuts on the corresponding board.

With the two boards flush against each other, turn the fastener nut clockwise until fully tightened.

Fastener System -Trouble Shooting

A.) There is a gap between the boards:

1.) Make certain the fastener nut is fully tightened.

2.) Make certain the fastener bolt is screwed in far enough.  Unlock the two boards    (turn the fastener nut to the left until the arrow points to the adjoining board).  Separate the two boards.  Turn the fastener bolt until the shoulder of the bolt is snug against the surface of the board. Reattach the two boards, and fully tighten the fastener nut.

B.) The fastener nut will not lock

1. Prior to tightening the fastener nut, the arrow on the nut must be pointing to the adjoining board. With the arrow in the proper position, turn the nut clockwise until fully tightened.

2. Make certain the fastener bolt is not screwed into the board too far.  Separate the two boards and turn the fastener bolt so that the shoulder of the bolt is snug against the surface of the board. Reattach the two boards.
